Millennial Monsters Series...

Millennial Monsters is a series of exclusive releases from Fig-lab of recent original Japanese vinyl figures in a signature color way. Many of the figures chosen for the series have been sculpted and painted by the artists themselves. All are self-financed labors of love. The objective of the series to highlight some of these outstanding creators, producers and their endearing characters. In addition to the releases themselves, effort will be made to showcase the the back stories of the characters, a history of the figure and an insight to the creative process of each artist.

The first three releases from the series will be available in San Diego at the Onell Design/GFS2009 booth (#4937). Called Destudon Mini it has been designed by Touma and Monstock

Touma's AvP arcade toys

Due to drop in September, Touma has designed these two quailty pieces for catcher arcade machines in Japan. However, fear not - you won't need to go all that way to get them at Tokyotoystore in the UK is planning to get them in. The Alien in particular would looke great next to the Medicom Kubrick pieces.

Touma's Beak Falcon

Touma's recent releases have had more of a 'cute' side to them but this is straight back to Fang Wolf/Knuckle Bear territory with a vengance with Beak Falcon. This colourway is the first release with a blue and black variant also due in January. A GID version limited to 100 is also planned but no word on released date. Beak Falcon stands at around 6" (similar size to the OG Knuckle and earlier pieces such as Talons).

Touma Skull King

How do you follow a post about dancing biscuits? Truly I know this will be made of fail but nevermind I shall continue with another JP vinyl post.

Next up from Touma and Intheyellow is Skull King, a nice looking piece approx 8" high with a real presence in this prototype 'white' form...although 3 pieces are available. How Touma gets time to design all this stuff i'll never know but he's out there creating unique sculpt after unique sculpt. I like this one as it has a slightly mean vibe compared to some of his other work and some quality detailing on the 'skin'.

Kidrobot July/SDCC releases

So July's KR releases...including some but not all of the SDCC exclusives....are up. First things first. Just how damn busy is Touma??!!! Aside from his stuff with PI - little trickers, KBs, Skuttles etc and now we've got a 20" Dunny and another mini-series!

The Dunny's not bad...close to his smaller design but minus the glittery paint job. Seems like a wasted opportunity to do something better. The 12 "Evil Skaters" are more interesting. Supposedly former skaters they've gone off the rails and become twisted. Would have preferred to see some decks in there too though like through their heads or something. The pink one up front looks kinda like a cartoon version of the Motorhead logo though! Mr Touma will also be at SDCC for a signing on July 25.

SDCC Exclusive Tokidoki 8" Dunny...well this has been a while coming and much anticipated. This Pizza loving character has a Moofia face and Adios plus scooter on the back. Simone
will be signing this 8-inch from 11-2pm at SDCC on July 27. It's bound to be huge success with both Toki fans and Dunny collectors all after this....personally I think the Qees are far better designs, this just seems a little too "place the core Toki design elements and the move them into a position that fits". The blue face/white body also jars....expected a lot more than this TBH.

Kozik's "Bob the Slug" is a 5" piece combining two Series 1 Monger figures into a larger piece due for release mid-July. Lots of detailing on this but i'm not convinced the two figures combined really work like this. A larger version of either would have been more welcome IMO but there's a whole lot of smorkin' going on here!

PI x Touma

PI are dropping some Touma designed goodies first half of this year. First up is a mini series set...Little Trickers....interesting designs with a sort of cute but nasty edge. Looks like there's some Knuckle Bears (cub?), Grabbit, Konga Bonga and Snouts.

Then back to a larger format is Squeezel....a 9" tall sort of Squirrel but with a big hand tail. Weird but I like it and esp in this colour - presumably a rarer UK red squirrel rather than those damned Grey amercian cousins that take over their habitat!!! Although i'm fairly certain they wouldn't be a threatened species if they'd worn sneakers like this fella!!!

Pig (part 2)

Further to Mazzle's Pigqee...it seems quite popular right now with Touma's latest PeeGee. This pic os from David Ishii's Wonderwall blog. Not really liking any of these colours, bar the mono/grey, but the sculpt looks interesting and I like the sleepy eye variant.

Play Imaginative Goodies...

Yesterday was a good day to be at the Clutter office!! We had our consignment of goodies arrive from the wonderful people over at Play Imaginative. In total there were 10 boxes on the UPS van and we had a lot of fun opening and playing with our samples. The majority of it was for our huge competitions that we are running both online and in the next issue!

We have been discussing the quality of some of the major releases recently and have been very disappointed by some companies lack of quality control, however Play Imaginative are really bringing it home. The standard of production is very very high and the printing quality, particularly on the Zugan is amazing! We give PI a big thumbs up!

I think my favourite thing, bar the 18” flocked knuckle is defiantly the wood finish Grabbit, it is fab!

Aye Carumba!

Lord almighty....look at the size of that!

I really like Touma's work and this 19" Knuckle is looking good already....wonder if they'll do a blank too??

No idea how much this monster is going to be, but if you want one, you might want to start looking down the side of the sofa for some spare change.
