Comedy Genius..

Paddy and Keith Lemon do Dirty Dancing for Comic Relief.. Proper Bo'

Stephan LePodd Variants

Another pic courtesy of MINDstyle who seem to be hitting it out of the park at the moment! (Thats right, its all American Sports from me today! none of this Rugby crap)

The pic shows off the different variants of Doktor A's Stephan LePodd figure. Again adding that extra something to a variant makes it oh so much more desirable. I for instance am now in particular after the Pith Helmet adorned figure! Let us hope they don't cost as much as his Chase Dunnys!!!

MINDstyle x Lau x Jordan

Ok new batch of pics from MINDstyle arrived in my inbox overnight including this beauty of the Jordan figure. I've not seen a big pic of this anywhere else yet so thought i'd get there first :P

This Mindstyle variant of the Lau figure is post 6 rings era Jordan when the old man, complete with 'tasche, came out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards (nice adaptation of the Wizards logo for the 'M' in MINDstyle). Awesome figure and I love it - the white version is spot on, but the blue on the away strip's a bit more Knicks looking than the turquoise of the Wizards. Nice sneakers tho ;)

It's just great to see a variant of a figure be more than just a colour swap, the change of kit takes the figure to another era and keeps it desirable. Would have been even cooler if the Bulls version didn't have the 'tasche and it had been added on this one to indicate his age. Anyway, I want one!

Itokin Park @ Super7

Tomorrow (Feb 28th) sees the opening of the Itokin Park show at Super7 and by the looks of some sneak pics its going to be quite a show. Kazuhiko Ito's work has really caputred the imagination of a lot of collectors having already built a huge following in Japan. From his early handmade resin figs he's now got quite a few production pieces in the works all with his signature playful style.

The Super7 show sees the release of a limited edition Himalan in a cherry kool aid colour and gold spray. The show will also feature prints and one-off customs based on his Himalan and Mikazukin toys - some examples below including one filled with mini Mika's! To top it all Kazu will also be in attendance to sign stuff, doodle and generally hang out with fans

The joy of having far too much time on your hands...

I remember the days when I was about 14 and Kirsty and I would sit around trying to work out the lyrics to some of our favourite songs (Mexican Seafood - Nirvana, ring any bells K?). Inevitably we would have way more fun trying to fit words that sound similar, than getting the actual lyrics and just spend the evening sitting around in fits in laughter (Especially when we thought we had it down, to only later read the lyrics and find we were way off). 10 (cough) and a bit years later I can still vividly remember three of us sitting in my bedroom (covered floor to ceiling - actually that was covered too, in posters of punk and metal bands) falling around laughing attempting to do this. I guess it’s always that link between music and nostalgia (partly brought on by one of those 25 things notes on facebook).

Anyway I digress. Its seems that in our technological age the act of sitting around with your mates making what you see as comedy gold is more interactive and can be shares with the world. Chondra sent me a link to this earlier on today, and she aided me to waste half my evening by following related videos of peoples massacring other bands songs. It genius lies shambolic approach. Proof that you don’t need to be a master at a computer (or a pencil) to make something that’s gold. Its crap quality’s, bad animation and lyric changes that don’t always fit, make it genius. And its exactly what I would have been doing when I was 14, hell I’d be doing it now if i had the time.... hmmmmm

TLLS - Kidrobot - "One for all the Audience"

You dont have to watch all of this.. the key part is 8.05 min in right through to the end. Rosie O'Donnel bigs up Kidrobot. Nick just informed me she is a huge kathie olivas fan which is awesome!

Artoyz Elments "Alpha" Series

Seen over on Artoyz are some shots of the upcoming Elements Alpha Series...and the one that really caught my eye was this beauty by MIST. Really seems to have captured his style better than his other platform work..just wish the figure itself was bigger so this looks like a big tagged wall! Series is scheduled to drop in March.

Found in TK Max...

Haven't done a found in TK max post for a while now, mainly because I haven't been in one since christmas. Today however, Kirsty happened to pop in on her way to the hairdressers, and guess what she found. Yes that's right, non other then Mr Pete Fowler's boxfresh hoodie for £20. So she snapped me one up! Whoooa Yeh! (Sorry for the blurry media message photo).

Uh -oh this is why I shouldn't be allowed to talk on film..

My Accent sucks!! In my defence I was very very hung over!! lol. Lots of fun though. We couldn't believe the line that turned up! We see photos all the time but experiencing it first hand is quite something else!

Kidrobot take over Childrens TV..

I'm sure this is going to raise some debate in the vinyl community!! Interesting (but not surprisingly) Kidrobot has worked with the Cartoon Network to provide the channel with a new ident and a rebrand. Working with Tristan Eaton they have created this 'new' generic shape called Noods. I personally think its lazy design which is simply a stretched Munny with a kinda lightbulb shaped head. However you can clearly see that its from the hands of Kidrobot, so from a marketing point of view its genius… Get them while they are young, Hook them in and get them spending! Does this devalue the high end of the 'art' based scene? Or does it capture children's imagination and encourage creativity? It really makes me wonder.

Kidrobot have taken quite a hammering in the past from fans who don't like this commercial direction, and whilst it was always quite separate they seemed to tread the balance between the two quite well. However I wonder how this cross over will be received.

I guess the question is do people that spend $200+ for a hoodie or a toy still want to wear/own it when children of 5 are sporting pencil cases, pens, rulers and bags with a similar if not same branding?

It’s an interesting debate for sure.

Here's the animations….. They are fun to watch and are definitely well produced... I look forward to reading your comments!

Evil Beaver

Illustrator Jeff Pidgeon is dropping more versions of his amazing Happy Beaver toy. Seen above is the "Angry Beaver", angry about what I don't know, maybe the mis-appropriation of punk to sell some toys without paying original artists their dues? This being the Kozik version it gets a smork but even without that element this is IMO, the best Kozik platform piece in a long time....esp lil butthole!!

Even better news is that there will be another two versions of the Beaver, potentially done by Jeff or with another artist and that he is "open to suggestions on what those will be." He also mentions a resin figure with Bigshottoworks!!! Beaver on a building anyone?

Black Rat Press "Print" show

This weekend saw the latest "print" show from BRP. The exhibition includes works by artists including Matt Small, D*face, Sweettoof, Brian Adam Douglas, Gaia, Lucas Price, Nick Walker and Blek Le Rat.

The D*Face Spiderman print was mighty tempting...but not at £475 unframed for an edition of 95...that said, over half were sold just half an hour after the show had opened!

Each artist created something specifically for the show, showcasing a wide spectrum of print techniques including etchings, stone lithographs, woodcuts, linocuts and screenprints. As well as a number of new editions being released there were also very small editions of hand coloured prints or unique works. All in all a good show and definitely interesting to see the artists printing in person.

Dropping soon from Shawnimals are more Ninajtown micro plush goodness, encompassing more of the Ninjatown characters seen in the DS game and back story. Series 1.5, due out soon, also marks a slight change of direction in that all the details are embroidered versions of the Series 1 characters...Zombie Ninja, Business Ninja and the rest. Series 2 (below) takes that idea and runs with it with what looks like more intricate designs and a wealth of new chracters, both good and evil! Brandt Peters @ Gallery1988

This ongoing show at G1988 Los Angeles looks absolutely stunning with multiple works on canvas, found objects, paper and a huge Peacemaker sculpt. But what really caught my eye - given the price tags - were a couple of handpainted toys based on Brandt's Slap Happy sculpt a toy i'd always liked but never really loved. Until now.

For around $500 you can get one of these beauties that to me perfectly captures Brandt's style....of course that's down to the handpaint finish but I'm sorely tempted to purchase one!

Dave Pressler's Angry Clobber Monkey

Due for release in April is the Angry Clobber Monkey and "Driver Mechanic" pal from sculpting/animation whizz Dave Pressler. No word yet on exact numbers for this piece or a potential price but judging by the factory protoype pictured here this piece should be hugely popular.

Valentine's Day with the Beautiful Crime crew

So Feb 14th started with a nice bit of street art, hanging with the Beautiful Crime crew and walking with them as they started dropping some canvases around the East End. Finbar, the BC guys, FARK and Dan K all took part dropping canvases on the streets East to West before hitting up Selfridges to drop the custom Munny. Sadly it seems one of the staff there snaffled it for themselves....but never fear if you like Fark's work there will be plenty more of this sort of thing coming shortly!

New Bossy Bears

So not being able to make the Yoyamart show in NYC sucks but thanks to the interweb pictures have emerged of the next batch of Bossy's due out in April/May time....this time in some super dayglo colours! The Yoya event also had the GID pre-release Turtles and Crocadoca figs...damn! Regular Turtle due out by the end of Feb with the larger crowned Turtle and Croc following a month or so later.

T9G Helper

It seems the toy gods have listened to my plea, so joy of joys April (according to Tim B) should see the release of T9G's version of the classic Helper character. No word on pricing/availability but as its made by Intheyellow you'd expect there to be a few colourways and maybe some haindpainted versions too.

GID Mad Dolbee..

This GID variant of the first Dolbee Madness design has never been released, untill now that is! There were only 100 produced (i'm pretty sure not for an event but for promotion).

Mad has just put a few of his samples on ebay so if you want one then you best be quick. These are hotter than hot!

Seen to open new Gallery...

The good news for all of us Europeans is that Seen has big plans. He has recently purchased a place in Paris which he is currently gutting and turning into a kick ass gallery space. No word yet on when the opening will be, but i am hoping for a big party (as always).
