Wot I did yesterday!
Right this is what happened to me yesterday. Visited Mr Paul Naylor up at Indigo Tattoo in Northwich, Cheshire. It's a gal from my fave pin-up artist Gil Elvgren and Paul did an amazing job on it. One of the best guys in the country in my humble opinion for Black and grey work especially. Took just 4hrs from start to finish and i couldn't be happier with it.
I highly recommend him and wouldn't be suprised if i end up back there again some time (sorry parents!) Beautiful, beautiful work! Thank you. I'll post another pic when its healed and a bit less red.
Bertie rocking your world...
Here is the latest teaser of the Bertie robot from Klim over at bigshottoyworks. This is the final test shot, weapons and accessories have been changed. Check out Ashley's blog for more info and a size comparison. Can't wait!!
What i've been up too...
Yesterday i got my tongue pierced. I have to say that it was one of the least painful piercings i have ever had, which surprised me loads. Today it is sore but more like aching than anything else and I'm talking a bit like a spaz lol, well i am trying not to talk as much as possible but as you know thats tough for me!. Nick will post later to explain why i was in the vicinity of a piercer in the first place, but i don't want to ruin his surprise!! Thanks paul for taking such good care of me :)

This first Collab Series includes artists Pushead - "The Music" (8-1/4), Todd Bratrud - "The Mermaid" (8) and Michael Sieben - "The Mushrooms" (7-5/8). Each deck is made by local San Diego deck manufacturer Watson Laminates with decks limited to 500. The decks are currently available in all Upper Playground outlets.

Craola x Upper Playground

How random is this huh? A walrus in a sweater and top hat with a gothic hand puppet.
It's the new Upper Playground toy created by Craola, based on its mascot, to be produced by Ningyoushi. Loving it because it's so unlike anything else. 7" limited to 500 pieces - hopefully coming to the UP store in London at a reasonable price sometime in December...the dollar price makes me think it will be around the £40 mark.
This is the first in what's scheduled to be a line of UP toys...I'm hoping that means we'll see a Jeremy Fish and Sam Flores pieces as well.
Oooohhh....Gundam!
I love Gundam but never collected any of the pieces, despite the high tech versions being some of the best models you can get. But this caught my eye...apparently a collab between Bandai and Japanese clothing label Mastermind.
Available for pre-order from the Bandai hobby shop....for £1,500. But as robots go it does pretty much rule

No Music Day?!
Apparently someone wanted today to be "no music day" in order to contemplate the beauty of music and appreicate it more.
To which I say...bollocks. So lets have some Sonic Youth and at the same time marvel at what an awesome skater Jason Lee is and how young he is in this video!

Nostalgia - mix tapes

While having a frankly rare ridy up I found a shoe box with some old mix tapes in it. Stuff i'd totally forgotten about...I guess it was made in1992 (I think) for that summer going camping with mates and a few festivals.
Talk about a trip down memory lane. It's weird how this whole culture of mix tape has disappeared with digital technology. Sure you can make an awesome mix on itunes with gapless playback but it's not the same. You need that little pause between songs while you dug out the tape or CD to copy a tune.
Here's the tape playlist (side 1 more indie, side 2 more of a hip hop flavour) for you all to laugh at the teenage angst:
Side 1
"Touch me i'm sick" - Mudhoney
"Teenage Riot" - Sonic Youth
"Negative Creep" - Nirvana
"Debris Slide" - Pavement
"Grey Cell Green" - Neds Atomic Dustbin
"Everything Flows" - Teenage Fanclub
"Sheena-na-gig" - PJ Harvey
"September Gurls" - Big Star
"Never Talking to you Again" - Husker Du
Side 2
"Black Country Chainstore Massacre" - PWEI
"Kool Thing" - Sonic Youth
"Sliver" - Nirvana
"Peter Piper" - Run DMC
"They want money" - Kool Moe Dee
"Ain't no half-stepping" - Big Daddy Kane
"Follow the Leader" - Eric B and Rakim
"You Must Learn" - Boogie Down Productions
"Know how" - Young MC
"Say No Go" - De La Soul
Now I have to hunt them all down to stick on the iPod!

Qeetastrophy.. Punk Rock Bunnyqee!!..
This 16" Bunny Qee has been a very busy boy!! He has completed his hardcore stint on the Vans Warped Tour in the states and has been signed by members of Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, New Found Glory, Avenge 7 Fold, MC Chris, Good Charlotte, members of the Jackass crew and many more. In the Picture above he is spotted being signed by members of Cartel in a web interview!!
He then moved on to Monster-Mania 9 where every celeb in attendance signed him including horror legends like Karen Black, Chris Sarandon, Angus Scrimm, Sid Haig, Tom Savini and Danny Trejo. In Toronto he hung out with Paris Hilton, Darren Lynn Bousman, Anthony Stewart Head, Tobin Bell and Paul Sorvino's.
He is due to move on and collect more celeb friends in the next 3 weeks! Raymond says he is due to be auctioned the end of October, However as we are now in November, he has either already been auctioned or its next year lol. I'll keep you informed if i learn anything about it. All Proceeds will be going to St. Jude's Pediatric Hospital.

WTF Kidrobot on X factor?
Ok so firstly i would like to clarify that i don't normally watch the X factor, after the comedy audition stages its a load of crap, but i just got in and so decided to watch it. Anyway there i am thinking i should turn this shit off, when on comes the choreographer wearing a Kidrobot hoodie!! Shock horror, prime time Saturday night television. You couldn't get a better advert (and actually you couldn't have picked a more Kidrobot styled hoodie, i wonder if he was given it to wear?)!! Be in TX Max next lol.

Obey @ Stolenspace
If you're in London anytime in the next month you might want to get yourself to Brick Lane at check out the Obey show at Stolenspace (temporary place not the Gallery space for the SEEN show). Even if you don't like his work particularly the size and scale of this exhibit will blow you away.
We're talking a huge space with a couple of canvas that would probably fill my entire flat! I've never really liked a lot of Shepard's print work but these are something else - the layers, the details, the textures really can only be appreciated up close and personal.
I definitely have a new appreciation of his work. There's the whole question of whether it can be called "art" just because it's in a gallery when really it's advertising his brand by taking propaganda and advertising images and subverting them is open to debate.
If I have one criticism it's that with the amount of prints Obey have been putting out - practically one a week - a lot of the images a very familiar and used over and over again. This could be tied back to the idea of brand and advertising but to me, it lessened the impact of a few pieces. This was especially true when the same exact images were done as a canvas and as a metal etching, as impressive as they were.
Oh and the minor annoyance of the Joe Strmmer piece that explained he was, shock horror "in the Clash". See, betcha never knew that huh ;)

MAD for KR

So it's a couple weeks later, but I had a chance to stop by the NY Kid Robot release of Mad's new Ninja Dunny. In white, black and a very limited red, the piece comes with throwing star and samurai sword. Though the variant colors are cool, I think the white is definitely the strongest (good thing because that's what I got in my blind box:)) The figure is top notch in my opinion-even the blood looks realistic and the packaging certainly got equal attention. Definitely worth the $50, but good luck tracking one down. Thanks to KR and Mad for accomodating my early arrival and for another quality release.
